Hugh Jackman Talks 'The Wolverine' Sequel, X-Men Contract Status and More
The X-Men solo movie The Wolverine hit theaters earlier this year and will come out on DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 3. Reports have also emerged that a sequel is in the works, which we'll just call The Wolverine 2 for now. But what about Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman?
In an interview with EW.com, Jackman says that he has spoken with The Wolverine director James Mangold but would not (or could not) say any more.
"I was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night," Jackman said. "There are some really cool ideas that I'm dying to tell you, but that would be giving away a secret that is not even [fully] formed yet."
Jackman also addressed his contract status with Fox regarding the X-Men movies. Reportedly, the two sides must renegotiate his deal after the 2014 superhero blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past. But the actor seemingly reassured everyone that he is not about to abandon ship.
"I started with a two-picture deal on the first two [X-Men films], and from that point on, it's been movie by movie. Not just me, but Fox and Jim and everyone," Jackman said. "I do want to do it with Jim and with [producer] Lauren Shuler-Donner because we had such a great experience. I'm really proud of The Wolverine."
Finally, Wolverine does not actually age, but Jackman does. That makes it somewhat difficult for the 45-year-old actor to keep up with his on-screen alter ego.
"I kind of am enjoying him more than ever...Being older helps playing Wolverine. He's 200 or 300 years old, no one really knows, and he's sort of world-weary," Jackman said. "The actual working out gets harder and harder, I'll admit."
