Watch 'The Day of the Doctor' prequel episode teaser 'The Night of the Doctor' w/ Paul McGann reprising his eighth 'Doctor Who' role!
There are only 8 days left before we are treated to BBC's 50th anniversary special for Doctor Who, so it's incredibly fitting that eighth Doctor Paul McGann has popped up in the special's prequel. Whovians the world over are familiar with the prequels that are released before big episodes, but the surprise of McGann is just so fantastic. For months the talented actor (who was in the 1990s Doctor Who movie) has been telling news outlets that he was distraught over not being involved in the special. It looks like he was just toying with us though! Check out "The Night of the Doctor" special mini-episode, prequel right here!
As if addressing the audience directly, McGann's first words in this mini-episode come right before the title sequence: "I'm a Doctor. But probably not the one you were expecting."
How perfect is that? Too perfect? Well the prequel continues, drawing us closer and closer to answers we've wanted to figure out ever since the end of series 7 with the appearance of John Hurt.
The prequel quickly reveals that we're in the Time Wars are happening and despite his attempts to save her, the crew member on the crashing ship, Cass, does not trust Time Lords. In fact, when McGann says he's at least not a Dalek, the angered ship captain exclaims: "Who can tell the difference anymore?"
Clearly we're about to see some hectic times and have the eighth Doctor around to help us through them. But why are we seeing this Doctor from the past. We're currently on number eleven (Matt Smith), so why are we with number eight?
