Rihanna to receive Icon award at American Music Awards

Rihanna is slated to perform and receive the first ever 'Icon' award at the 2013 American Music Awards.

The show's producer Larry Klein said:

"The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time."

The edgy, pop songstress emerged on the scene in 2005 with her hit single "Don de Replay" and has been topping the charts ever since. She has released a total of seven studio albums.

Rihanna recently embarked on her 777 tour, on which she touched down in 7 countries to perform 7 shows in 7 days.

The Bajan beauty has had 12 no. 1 singles, selling 50 million albums and 180 million singles worldwide. Rihanna is currently the highest-selling digital artist of all time. For four consecutive years, the singer has released a new album in November.

Her hard work and dedication has gone unmatched. Rihanna has essentially flowed the internet and radio with her material. Not to mention, she's also the most watched artist on Vevo/YouTube.

This year's lineup of performances include Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Jennifer Lopez, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, TLC and Pitbull, who will host the show.

The AMAs are set to air Nov. 24 live from ABC at 8 p.m. Will you be watching the show? Why or why not?
