Best and Worst Moments From The Week in Television Featuring Homeland, Scandal, HIMYM and More
Another Monday means another edition of MStars' "Best and Worst Moments From The Week in Television," and this week's article features everything from How I Met Your Mother (twice) to Homeland (we finally say some nice things about it!) and more. So without further ado...
Best Moments
1) Homeland remembers what it does best: After a series of lackluster and downright laughable episodes, Homeland returned to form (for the most part) on Sunday with an episode that actually focused on what the show was about in the first place: spies and the CIA. No Brody family, no Misadventures of Dana Brody the Troubled Teen, no terrible romance subplots. The show got back to good old fashioned spy work and reminded us all that Carrie is a horribly flawed protagonist when she almost blew an entire mission because she wants to clear her baby daddy's name. Yes, there was some more Pregnant Carrie stuff, but the show at least acknowledged that she's been a terrible soon-to-be mother so far. And Brody FINALLY came back when Saul went to see him in Venezuela. Maybe this season can be salvaged yet.
2) Barney met The Mother: In a completely improbable plot twist, we found out that Barney actually met Ted's future wife on How I Met Your Mother before the rest of the gang, and she convinced him to go after Robin. This led to Barney's decision to propose and the rest is history. But you know what? We don't care how improbable it was! The Mother is wonderful, so let's throw her into all the important moments in these people's lives. Let her fix Marshall and Lily's move to Rome vs. judgeship problem. Let her fly Robin's mom to the wedding. Hell, let her officiate the ceremony!
Worst Moments
1) CBS orders How I Met Your Dad: To quote Barney, "Could you just...okay?" This show does NOT need to exist and is another case of networks' lack of imagination and not knowing when to leave well enough alone. How I Met Your Mother was a refreshing and unique concept when it debuted in 2005. How I Met Your Dad sounds like it will be nothing more than a HIMYM knock-off. But Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have delivered a sitcom classic for the past nine years, so we're willing to give this one a chance. They've earned it.
2) Fitz's dad raped Mellie on Scandal: This is a show that has made its name on shocking twists and plots that move at the speed of light. But was the revelation that Fitz's dad raped Mellie years ago and that their first child might be his a bit too much, or did it work for this show?
