Monty Python members Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle reuniting for a stage show of popular comedy troupe
The five remaining members of the British comedy troupe Monty Python, Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle, are reuniting for a stage show. According to a quote from member Terry Jones, this news is much more than a rumor and a formal announcement is expected to come later this week.
"We're getting together and putting on a show. It's real," Jones said according to the BBC.
The comedy troupe member didn't go into any more detail, though. As of now, this stage show could be based on previous works or involve brand new material. Also, we have no idea when or where it will happen or how long it will go on for.
"I'm quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money," Jones quipped. "I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage."
1983's Monty Python's The Meaning of Life was the last time all 6 of the members of the troupe performed together. Graham Chapman, the sixth member, died in 1989.
Here is an excerpt from The Hollywood Reporter's coverage of this news:
Buzz had been building in London all morning after an invite to a Thursday press conference at The Playhouse Theatre, where Monty Python's Spamalot has been playing. Earlier this year, a film producer won a legal case against the surviving members of Monty Python over royalty rights to the hit stage show.
