Leighton Meester is engaged to Adam Brody

Well it's official, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are engaged, People has confirmed. Brody, 33, was once the nerdy but adorable Seth Cohen on The O.C., and Meester, 27, was the trouble-making, spoiled Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl.

Though the couple has been dating for a while, according to People, it's still a bit weird to try and not perceive them as their characters in the popular teen dramas. Of course an engagement between Blair and Seth would be a disaster. She would manipulate him and totally destroy his life and other relationships.

But this is real life, so it's probably okay. They appear to be affectionate. People reported that while they had dinner with a friend in Venice, Calif. in February at local Mexican restaurant La Fiesta Brava, an onlooker spilled on the details of the scene: "Adam put his arm around Leighton and the two smiled at each other while she snuggled into his chest before the trio headed out."

Maybe not the most important insight on the couple's relationship, but at least it's confirmed that they do indeed display affection toward each other.

Meester and Brody both starred in the 2011 film Oranges. In 2006 Brody split with Rachel Bilson, much to the disappointment of The O.C. fans. And in 2010 Meester talked to People about her previous breakup with Sebastian Stan. "I've only had one experience where it was really hard and I was really sad when it ended, but that's what taught me a lot about myself and love and life - and that's good."
