Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are taking a break to make new music
In a recent interview with XXL, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' manager said the duo is ready to "disappear for a while." The two plan on taking a break from performing and touring sometime after the Grammys to begin work on their new album.
"This album cycle is coming to a close," Zach Quillen, their manager said. "We'll - I imagine - go to the Grammys in January this year and afterwards, kind of call it quits for a bit and take some time off. The guys are gonna get into the studio next year and see what happens. But we're in no rush."
It has become common for artists to release mixtapes in between albums, like a gift to hold fans off until the next project is released but Quillen says there will be none of that from Macklemore.
"There's no Macklemore mixtape or attempt at kind of staying around," Quillen added. "I think we're gonna disappear for a little while and try to make some good music and find an interesting way of putting it out. I think it'll be a quiet year."
Its been a busy year for the two. They've been just about everywhere promoting their second album, The Heist, which has sold more than 1.1 million copies since its release last October.
The album featured the hit single "Thrift Shop," among others. "Thrift Shop" has sold over 6 million copies and stayed atop the Billboard singles charts for six nonconsecutive weeks.
Catch the duo performing at this year's American Music Awards. The show will air Sunday (Nov. 24). Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have been nominated in six categories. They have the leading number of nods.
