The X Factor USA 2013 Top 8 results narrows competition to six acts
After all the turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, The X Factor aired its Top 8 results show and further narrowed its Season 3 competition down to just six acts.
Demi Lovato, who also serves as a judge and mentor on the show, performed her new single "Neon Lights" during the broadcast, but the entire performance felt...off. Something about her vocals didn't feel right and she looked upset with herself (or maybe with someone else) after she was finished. Michael Bublé also performed.
The first of two acts to be sent home on Thursday night was Lillie McCloud, the soulful middle-aged woman whom Simon called boring numerous times.
The five acts that America voted to send to safety were:
- Alex & Sierra
- Carlito Olivero
- Ellona Santiago
- Jeff Gutt
- Restless Road
That meant that Rion Page, the spirited 13-year-old with near-blindness in her right eye and a disease that affects her hands, would sing for survival against Josh Levi, the energetic 15-year-old.
Rion sang Pink's "Perfect," but she struggled with much of the song despite the obvious emotion and energy that permeated her vocals. Josh sang Bruno Mars' "When I Was Your Man" and did a better job with it, though he seemed a little frazzled in spots, too.
Oddly enough, Josh's mentor Paulina Rubio gave the wrong name before he took the stage. "I'm gonna present the only one. The suave, the lover, the rico, the Carlito Olivero!"
Despite the gaffe, it was then time for the judges to vote:
- Demi Lovato voted to send home Josh (she's Rion's mentor)
- Paulina Rubio votes to send home Rion (she's Josh's mentor)
- Kelly Rowland votes to send home Rion
- Simon Cowell votes to send home Josh
Simon wanted to let America decide, so he sent the vote to deadlock. The act with the fewest number of votes was Josh Levi, and he was sent home.
