Nigella Lawson's ex-husband now says there was no evidence of her drug use
The drama continues in the case of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson's alleged drug use as her ex-husband testifies in court. Previously, it was understood because of a leaked email that Charles Saatchi thought his wife had been using cocaine, marijuana and prescription medication for years on a daily basis.
It appeared that he believed that was the reason she allowed her two assistants (sisters Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo) to spend massive amounts of money on their credit cards, so they would keep their mouths shut about the drug use. CNN reports that he prosecution showed Saatchi a list of the top 50 transactions made by the sisters, totaling more than $1 million, which he said he did not recognize and had not authorized.
In the west London court, Saatchi voiced his surprise about the publicity about the drug use and said he was "bereft" that the e-mail, in which he said he "believed" what the sisters claimed about Lawson's drug use, had been made public.
He now says that he never once saw Lawson do drugs in the ten years that they were married and there is no hard evidence that she had done so. But he did say that the accusations from the sisters "sounded pretty compelling to me."
But The Hollywood Reporter stated "When asked if he believed allegations Lawson was so high she allowed the assistants to spend freely, Saatchi told the court 'not for a second.'"
Clearly all of the parties involved do not seem to be on the same page or have the same understanding of what took place over the ten years of their marriage, or even before that because the sisters have been assisting Lawson since her previous marriage. Lawson is expected to testify on Wednesday.
