Paul Walker's death could lead to 'Fast and Furious 7' filming being scrapped, starting over from scratch as '6' DVD proceeds go to charity
Earlier this week, reports claimed that the future of Fast and Furious 7 was not in turmoil despite rumors of it being put on hold after the untimely death of star Paul Walker. But now new reports are stating that the film might be in more trouble than we thought and could have to scrap what has already been filmed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the franchise's current production project might have to start from scratch now that Walker has died.
The Hollywood Reporter broke this story:
"Fast 7 already was on a tight schedule to meet its July 11 release date, which now likely will also shift. On Dec. 2, after two days of meetings that included NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke in Los Angeles, sources tell THR, the studio notified cast and crew that production would be on hold indefinitely. Universal declined comment."
Clearly we'll find out whether this piece of news is true as more information comes to light, but we should definitely consider this news to be at least close to the truth. Losing one of the main stars of a franchise obviously sets back a project, so reshoots or starting over seem like the best options right now.
"All of us at Universal are heartbroken," a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement Saturday night. "Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast and Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."
Meanwhile, proceeds from the DVD release of Fast and Furious 6 will go to Walker's charity, Reach Out Worldwide.
