Ron Burgundy and Robin Thicke Cover Christopher Cross' 'Ride Like the Wind'
Two of the most talked about men in 2013 have teamed up for a rousing rendition of Christopher Cross' 1980 recording "Ride Like the Wind." It's none other than Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell, although he's made a pretty solid shift in identity) and Robin Thicke for the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues soundtrack.
It's fair to say that this duet, though intriguing and unexpectedly pleasing, will not make the same kind of splash as Thicke's partnership with Miley at the VMA's. Burgundy serves more as a sidekick hype-man in the cover track, while Thicke displays his vocal chops. Burgundy chimes in with things like "It's a hot wind!" and "Feel that draft up your skirt ladies? That's me."
A little bit of one-sided dialogue is thrown in as Burgundy makes sure to get a word in between the lyrics. Thicke sings, "I was born the son of a lawless man." Burgundy responds, "You mean Alan Thicke?" Leave it to Burgundy to find the perfect chance for a reference to the singer's Growing Pains famous father. He adds, "Smoked a funny cigarette with this Robin Thicke guy."
It wouldn't be a song featuring the infamous newsman without a little visit from the jazz flute. Or is it pronounced "yazz" flute? He prefaces the solo: "Let me hit you with this," he says. "Three feet of polished nickel, valves and my sweet breath."
The soundtrack will also include the original song from Cross, with backing vocals from Michael McDonald, and classic hits from Neil Diamond, Captain and Tennille and Kenny Loggins. The album is out Dec. 17, the day before the film is released.
