Katy Perry’s Latest Music Video, ‘Wide Awake’ Premiered on MTV
Katy Perry released her latest music video 'Wide Awake' today on MTV. The world premiere is a part of "MTV First: Katy Perry" which included a 30 minute interview with Perry. The song "Wide Awake" was written for her 3-D concert film titled "Katy Perry: Part of Me."
Perry said to MTV News, "I love this song so much. It was a song that I hadn't written for Teenage Dream. I was doing this movie and they asked me if I wanted to write an end-title song for the movie and I was like, 'I know exactly what I want to say.' I was really kind of dying to write another song at that point. I didn't want to wait until I did a whole new record, and it's kind of the perfect last word of me at this moment."
The video shows a darker side of the sunny California girl. Perry described the song as a "dose of reality." Perry had gone through much in the past year including her divorce from Russel Brand. The video reveals a young woman (Perry) joined by a little girl who conquers obstacles within a maze and comes out of it successfully and unscathed.
Expect to see the 3-D concert movie "Katy Perry: Part of Me" in theaters July 5!
