Yellow Ostrich - Shades

I mostly know Yellow Ostrich as the band that wrote the greatest thirty seconds of music that Jack White never got around to (you're welcome for that link, by the way). Apparently though, they've done a bit more than that, releasing an R&B-leaning EP titled Ghost in 2012 that people seemed to genuinely like.

However, they are back with some new music and this time I'm on top of it. The group's latest is called "Shades" and it is fantastic.

Man, those licks are awesome. The R&B remains in slight touches like the group harmony, which coincidentally, fits nicely into the sonic template of psychedelia, which appears to be the direction they are heading. Anyone else hear acoustic Kenny Loggins in the "close your eyes" breakdown? No, just me? Moving on.

"Shades" comes from a new full-length called Cosmos that will drop February 25 via Barsuk.
