Obama on 'House of Cards'? President talks with Netflix CEO
Like much of the country, President Obama is a fan of the House of Cards series on Netflix starring Kevin Spacey. Deadline.com reports that Obama had a chance to chat with the Netflix CEO Reed Hastings at an important conference with the heads of major tech companies. In the White House pool report, Obama was reported as asking Hastings: "I'm just wondering if you brought advance copies of House of Cards?" In turn, the report stated: "the exec laughed and invited Obama to do a cameo on the series."
Others in attendance included Tim Cook of Apple and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. They joined in on laughs when Obama joked about House of Cards, particularly the main character, Frank Underwood. Obama said the harsh politician is "getting a lot of stuff done. He added, "I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient."
Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and other cast members attended the White House Correspondents Dinner, where Spacey did a "House of Nerds" parody video. With the second season airing on February 14th, 2014 (yes, Valentine's Day), we can only expect more fun skits with Washington to ensue.
As for Obama actually appearing on the show? You never know. Politicians have been on Late Night television and other popular shows in the past. Plus, there are plenty of episodes to come. Ted Sarandos, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, revealed to Deadline that they expect more than the original 26 episodes agreed upon.
Below you can watch the funny exchange with Obama in the CBS News video. The meeting covered national security surveillance and the Obamacare website, but you can listen for the House of Cards jokes:
