Ian Watkins Sentenced to 35 refers for terrible sex crimes
Ian Watkins, former frontman of Lostprophets, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that included attempted rape of an infant.
In a phone call that Watkins made after pleading guilty, the singer said that the whole case was "megalolz" adding that "I don't know what everyone is getting so freaked out about."
Another phone call had Watkins proclaiming innocence, in spite of video evidence to the contrary.
"I'm not a pedophile, I'm not," he said. "You know I plead guilty just to avoid a trial, not realising 'Hang on, that makes me look a bit guilty' but I would never harm anybody." When the recipient of the phone call asked if the case was still "megalolz" he responded "No, it's just lolz now."
His defense team continued to claim that Watkins had no recollection of his actions.
"He was very shocked when he saw [video of his attempted rape] and couldn't believe he had participated in such activity," Watkins' lawyer said.
"You are a sexual predator," the judge told Watkins during the sentencing. "You are dangerous. The public and, in particular, young females and children need protection from you ... It's difficult to imagine anything much worse."
