The Walking Dead Season 4 spoilers on when comic book villain Negan will appear

Be warned, fans of The Walking Dead. This article is going to be littered with spoilers so if you have not caught up on all the Season 4 action, then read ahead at your own risk.

The Governor (David Morrissey) finally bit the dust in the midseason finale of The Walking Dead after he attacked the prison with a tank. The Governor served as the main antagonist for Seasons 3 and 4, so there's a bit of a void in the show there. In the comics, an iconic baddie named Negan shows up as the leader of a group known as the Saviors to wreak all kinds of havoc. In the source material, however, there is plenty of time between the Governor's death in issue 48 and Negan's first appearance in issue 100.

But that did not stop EW.com from asking The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman when the new villain would appear on the show. Here's what he had to say:

"Well, there was a lot of breathing room in the comics between them. Whether or not we have the same amount of breathing room, or if we do cut that down a little bit and bring him into the show a little early remains to be seen. But I definitely do think there needs to be some kind of space from a Governor into a Negan. You have to have something of a break in there. So I wouldn't expect him to be showing up -definitely not in season 4. I don't know. I wouldn't expect it too soon. But we are all very excited about the prospect of bringing that guy into the show. The plan is that we will see him eventually."

The show has diverted from the comics in ways both major and minor thus far, so we'll see how and when the show decides to weave Negan into the narrative.
