Target won't 'Bow Down' to Beyonce, refuses to carry new album
While much of the world has been swept up in a wave of King Bey fever, there are a few places who are less than happy with Beyonce's surprise, digital-first release of her new album: namely, Target. The bastion of old media didn't like that Bey's record-smashing album was released exclusively through iTunes and they let B hear it.
"At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projects," a spokesperson told The Daily Dot. "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyoncé in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyoncé's new self-titled album 'Beyoncé.'"
Of course, Beyonce's not exactly hurting. Her album debuted at the top of the Billboard charts in spite of an abbreviated sales week and zero promotion behind the release.
