Will Tahmoh Penikett return to Supernatural Season 9 as Gadreel?

The midseason finale of Season 9 of Supernatural revealed that the angel who had been possessing Sam for the majority of the first half of the season was not Ezekiel as Dean originally thought, but Gadreel, the angel supposedly responsible for allowing the serpent into the Garden and blowing the lid off the whole "evil" thing.

Bad news for the characters in the Supernatural universe, but good news for the fans who got to see Jared Padalecki essentially play two characters in one as he switched from Sam to Ezekiel/Gadreel on the fly. He did an excellent job of mimicking the cadence of Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica), who played the angel in the Season 9 premiere. But is there a chance that Penikett could come back this season?

That's the question proposed in the "Matt's Inside Line" column at TVLine and showrunner Jeremy Carver has an answer...sort of:

"I'm really digging Jared Padalecki's dual portrayal of Sam and Ezekiel on this season of Supernatural, but I'm a bit bummed that we only got one episode of Tahmoh Penikett as the angel. Any hope of him returning to the role once Zeke is inevitably kicked out of Sam's body? -Grace
Executive producer Jeremy Carver hints that 'we might' see the BSG alum portray Gadreel at some point. 'There are lots of different ways, shapes and forms people can appear on the show. Past, present...' he notes. 'People shouldn't rush to any one conclusion. Just know there are a lot of different ways he could appear.'

Dead or presumed dead characters have come back dozens of times on Supernatural, so it would be no surprise at all if Penikett made a repeat appearance.
