Cash Money may launch sports management agency
Guess sports and hip-hop are becoming synonymous. YMCMB head honcos may be looking to get into the sports game with a new management agency.
According to government records obtained by XXL magazine, Cash Money Records has filed a legal request to trademark the name Visionaire Sports Group.
The label has already expanded quite a bit since it got started back in 1991. The label has added a management company, Young Money (helmed by Lil Wayne), a publishing arm, Cash Money Content, and its Trukfit clothing line.
But this isn't the first time that hip-hop top dawgs have ventured into the sports world. Back in 1998, Master P started his own No Limit sports agency and Jay Z went on to create Roc Nation.
The trademark request was filed on October 25 and is listed as owned by Cash Money Records, Inc., under the care of law firm Pryor Cashman LLP.
According to a source, the documents indicate that Cash Money now owns the name and has the intent to use the name, but probably has not yet done so.
Cash Money front man, Birdman, has tried his luck with other business ventures but none have materialized. In 2010, Cash Money formed an oil company called Bronald Oil.
Bloomberg questioned the company's validity after Birdman spoke about being in the oil business to Ozone magazine, and it seemingly fell off the face of the earth.
Hopefully they'll have better luck this time if they decide to go through with their sports management agency.
