Lynda Carter comments on Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in 'Batman vs. Superman' movie

The criticism from dissatisfied fans began ever since Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman in the 2015 Batman vs. Superman movie. But in the wake of that backlash, multiple actresses and other noteworthy voices have chimed in to defend the casting and the Fast and the Furious actress. The latest in that line of defenders is none other than the original Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter.

Carter portrayed the Amazonian superhero from 1975 to 1979 and has become synonymous with the character. In an interview with Metro, the 62-year-old actress talked about someone else stepping into Wonder Woman's shoes:

"Gal Gadot's just been cast as Wonder Woman in the forthcoming Superman film - will it be odd to see someone else playing her? 

I don't think so. It was a long time ago. I care more about the character continuing than holding on to my piece of it. I hope she has fun with it."

The site also asked Carter about the negative response to the inclusion of Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel (some fans feel the character is being shoehorned into the movie, while others just don't like the casting of Gadot) and Carter had an interesting take:

"There's been some criticism that Wonder Woman's an additional character in Superman rather than getting her own film. 

And maybe that's better. She won't have to carry the whole film. It takes the pressure off. I wish her well. I'm just glad she's going to be out there again. Maybe she'll get her own show again."
