2013 is coming to an end and instead of looking back on the year of movies and trying to rank them in some sort of list, we're going to look forward into 2014 and see what upcoming movies are already getting people excited. There are some great superhero films hitting theaters as well as exciting thrillers and interesting sci-fi stories. Are you excited about a certain film coming out in 2014? Keep reading and see if it made our list!

(This list is only subjective and based on the current excitement around each film)

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield are back for the exciting sequel to the rebooted Spider-Man franchise and it looks like they pulled out all of the stops for this one. This time around, Peter Parker is dealing with his established crime-fighting persona as well as juggling his romance with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). New criminals with new powers threaten the city and Peter himself, leaving him in a vulnerable state. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters May 2, 2014.

Under The Skin

A lot of buzz has been growing around the film Under the Skin, which features Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson as an alien who stalks men. Eventually her character's interest in men grows as her mission moves along and this sci-fi film turns into a deeper retrospective. Directed by Jonathan Glazer, the film will hit theaters March 14, 2014.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Thor 2: The Dark World managed to take over the box office this year, so Marvel is hoping for the same success with this sequel. Captain America, now separated from the Avengers, is a standalone film with the super soldier still adjusting to the modern world and new adventures. The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4, 2014.

Godzilla

The most iconic movie monsters of all time gets a modern retelling again, but this time around it looks like we've finally done it right. Godzilla comes to theaters May 16, 2014.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Bryan Singer returns to the comic book franchise that he made successful and brings back the original cast, mixing them with the old. Days of Future Past is one of the most iconic comic book story-lines of all time, so seeing this brought to the big screen is a treat for X-Men fans around the world. Experience X-Men: Days of Future Past on May 23, 2014.

Maleficent

What would happen if you took one of Disney's most ruthless evil sorceresses and gave her a back-story that explains her evil ways? Maleficent stars Angelina Jolie as the antagonist of Sleeping Beauty, but with an origin story that might change your views on the character. This new tale hits theaters May 30, 2014.

Fast and Furious 7

This franchise took a huge hit this year when star Paul Walker past away after a terrible car crash. Though it has experienced this huge setback as well as some filming rescheduling, fans of the series will get the (most likely) final installment of the Fast and Furious characters. Fast and Furious 7 is in theaters July 11, 2014.

Edge of Tomorrow

Let's make a futuristic war movie complete with battle armor suits that pretty much make soldiers into cyborgs. Also, let's have Tom Cruise star with his character dying and then restarting every day the same as the last, a la Groundhog Day. This new Sci-Fi film hits theaters June 6, 2014.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Though this comic isn't as popular as the other Marvel franchises, Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of the most hyped projects of 2014. Putting together an all-star cast of up-and-coming stars, director James Gunn is looking to wow audiences and create a franchise around this first film. This adventure starts August 1, 2014.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

The world loves The Hunger Games and 2014 marks the first part of the final storyline for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Mockingjay Part 1 will be in theaters November 21, 2014.
