WWE Spoilers: More updates on Brock Lesnar's UFC, WrestleMania 30 and Royal Rumble 2014 status, plus early retirement for CM Punk?
Brock Lesnar's name has been at the center of WWE spoilers and news in recent days, and that continues Monday with his supposed return on tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw.
Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer confirms that the recent reports of Brock Lesnar's potential return to UFC were just a publicity stunt to generate buzz for his return on the Dec. 30, 2013 edition of Raw. The Beast has an exclusive contract with WWE that runs until after WrestleMania 31 in April 2015, and it's far from a given that Vince McMahon, Triple H or anyone else in authority at WWE would amend the contract to let him compete in a UFC match.
Meltzer also reports that Lesnar will wrestle at the Royal Rumble on Jan. 26, though he does not say if Lesnar will be in the Rumble match itself or in a different bout. It's logical, then, that Lesnar's return on Raw tonight would begin a build toward the pay-per-view, on which Lesnar has not competed since 2004.
Finally, Meltzer reports that WWE's current plan for WrestleMania 30 is for Lesnar to face The Undertaker. The two combatants actually had some words (likely scripted/staged) at a UFC event In Anaheim on Oct. 23, 2010 minutes after Lesnar lost the UFC Heavyweight Championship to Cain Velasquez. Meltzer reports that the plan at that time was for Lesnar and Taker to clash at WrestleMania 27 in 2011, but Lesnar's exclusive contract with UFC would not allow him to compete for WWE.
CM Punk Hints at Early Retirement?
Talk of CM Punk's retirement in the next few years has circulated for months (if not more), and Punk himself has said he does not want to be a "lifer" in pro wrestling. The Second City Saint added some fuel to the retirement fire when he tweeted the following on Saturday night after a WWE Live Event:
Thanks Detroit. I don't have many of these left in me. Off to DC and coffee with Lyle Preslar.
— Coach (@CMPunk) December 29, 2013
Punk signed a deal with WWE in Summer 2011, and many contracts with the company run for three years, so it's possible that this situation could come to a crossroads in Summer 2014. But PWInsider.com reports that no one backstage in WWE expects Punk to leave the company immediately after that.
