Johnny Depp reportedly meets with Marvel Studios about 'Doctor Strange' movie role

The Marvel Cinematic Universe already includes a giant green monster, a super-soldier from World War II, a wealthy man in an expensive mechanized suit, the god of thunder, superpowered siblings, a team of aliens and a man in an ant suit. But even with all of these players already on board, Marvel could soon add another major actor, Johnny Depp, to its collection as Doctor Strange.

Latino Review posted an article about another unannounced piece of casting news from Marvel Studios. The site had described the actor in question as A-list and "in a different stratosphere" than multiple Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas, who recently officially joined Edgar Wright's Ant-Man film as Hank Pym. The site now reports that the actor is Johnny Depp and that he is supposedly meeting with Marvel Studios to discuss the possibility of his starring as the titular character in a Doctor Strange movie.

As usual, this is nothing but speculation at this point, but if true, then this is a slam dunk for Marvel. Depp would be the ideal actor to play Doctor Strange, and he is already a favored son at Disney thanks to the eye-popping amounts of money he generated through the Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland franchises. He's also a comic book fan, which is a plus.

Long-term, Depp could fill the hole left by Robert Downey Jr. if and when he departs the Marvel Cinematic Universe after The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. Depp's charisma is something Marvel could to take to the bank for years and would be a huge boost to keep the MCU going into the future.

What do you think, fans? Will Depp play Doctor Strange? And if so, is this a huge win for Marvel? Let us know in the comments below.
