'Doctor Who' season 8, 2014 episodes: Get ready for a 'madder, less reliable Doctor' says Peter Capaldi about Twelve
Thanks to a new interview with incoming Doctor Peter Capaldi, Whovians around the world now understand that the upcoming episodes of Doctor Who will be much different from Matt Smith's. Capaldi himself explained that, while fans are sure to miss the jovial nature of the previous two Doctors (Matt Smith and David Tennant), he promises to keep the tradition of a great show going for as long as he can.
"The last two Doctors have been 'your boyfriend' Doctors. It was time for the show to flip around," Capaldi said, drawing comparisons to two fan favorites of the recent past. "The new version of the show is quite old now. We're going to give Clara a Doctor who is a much older, fiercer, madder, less reliable Doctor who leads her a merry dance."
So we should be looking at some darker storylines, it seems. What do you think of Capaldi so far?
The In the Loop actor also opened up some more about his adoration of the show, stemming from his childhood.
"I don't remember Doctor Who not being part of my life, and it became a part of growing up, along with the Beatles, National Health spectacles, and fog," he explained. "And it runs deep. It's in my DNA."
He continued: "It may surprise you now, but something like [First Doctor adventure] "The Web Planet" lived powerfully and expansively in my head for decades... until the DVDs came along and spoiled the party. But I'm glad to say that the Menoptra eventually flitted back into my dreams, where they belong."
