Mac Miller leaves Rostrum Records
Good things don't last forever and that is the lesson learned for Mac Miller. He and Rostrum Records are going their separate ways.
That's right. Yesterday (Jan. 15) the Pittsburgh rapper announced that he's leaving Rostrum Records. Rostrum has been a huge force in Mac's career. The label is responsible for putting out Mac's No. 1-debuting Blue Slide Park in 2011 and his most recent album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off.
MTV has reported that an expiration of Mac's contract is the reasoning behind his departure. Mac signed to Rostrum back in 2010.
In a statement to MTV, Mac had this to say about leaving Rostrum Records:
"Rostrum is my family. That is forever. No matter what, we will always work together. We moved mountains and I can only see them continuing that tradition. I am grateful for everything I learned and am always here for whatever."
Mac's former label mate and frequent collaborator Wiz Khalifa is still with Rostrum Records. Wiz plans to release his next album, Blacc Hollywood, this year with the label.
The label's other talents include Vali, Boaz and Leon Thomas.
Rostrum prides itself in being the first label since 1995 to place an independent album atop the Billboard 200 with Blue Slide Park.
There doesn't seem to be any bad blood between Mac Miller and Rostrum Records.
In fact, Rostrum's founder and president Benjy Grinberg had this to say:
"Mac is an incredible artist and has a bright career ahead of him. We are proud of the historic run that we had together and we will continue to support him in any way that is needed. We wish him nothing but the best in the future."
We wonder who's going to pick Mac Miller up...hmmmm.
