How I Met Your Mother series finale title revealed, plus spoilers on Ted's kids' names
How I Met Your Mother is sprinting to the finish line with a run of nearly uninterrupted new episodes until the series finale on Monday, March 31. But before then, fans will finally learn the answer to a mystery that has gone on for eight-plus seasons: What are Ted's kids' names?
TVLine reports that next Monday's episode of the CBS sitcom, entitled "Unpause," will finally reveal the names of Ted's children, played in the future by Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie. HIMYM co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas confirmed the news on late Wednesday night at a farewell reception and Q&A session on the set of the show for members of the Television Critics Association.
Ted has dropped numerous hints throughout the show that he wanted to name his children Luke and Leia after the brother-sister duo in his favorite movie, Star Wars. We'll find out Monday if The Mother (Cristin Milioti) actually lets him do that to his children.
But wait, there's more! Bays and Thomas also revealed that the title of the series finale on March 31 is "Last Forever," which seems like a fitting title given the epic scope of the story Ted has been telling this entire time and given his feelings toward his wife. I mean, remember this speech for cryin' out loud?
Finally, the two co-creators added three more returning guest stars to Season 9's already lengthy list. Rachel Bilson, Sarah Chalke and Lucy Hale will each appear in future episodes of the final season.
Bilson played Cindy, Ted's ex-girlfriend-turned-lesbian who was The Mother's roommate. Chalke played Stella, Ted's fiancé who left him at the altar. Hale played Robin's little sister, who visited her back in Season 2.
