Clifton Collins Jr. reportedly joins cast of Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' movie
The casting news for Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie, the first of Marvel's Phase Three films due out in 2015, seems to be accelerating as more news continues to come quickly down the pipeline. The latest piece of information alleges that another actor has signed on for a role in the superhero film.
Latino Review's Mario Robles tweeted on Wednesday morning that Clifton Collins Jr. had joined Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas for the movie:
"Clifton Collins Jr. (Pacific Rim) will be in Marvel's Ant-Man. As of now, he's the only other main actor signed, aside from Rudd & Douglas."
The Hollywood Reporter had posted an article earlier in the week to say that Michael Pena was getting close to a deal to join the movie, which reportedly wants a "tough Latino" part. The article mentioned that the studio was considering Javier Bardem and Collins for the role. So does this Latino Review report mean that Pena is out of the running, or just that he has not signed on yet?
As always, take this with a grain of salt because nothing is official until the studio says so.
If this information proves to be true, then which part would Collins play? Perhaps the report from This Is Infamous a few days ago could shed some light on the situation (maybe substitute Collins' name for Pena?):
"While it took awhile to piece together the timeline, our understanding is that Castillo will be the film's villain in the beginning, which takes place in the 1960s. It is here that we'll get our introduction to Ant-Man - the Hank Pym version - which Marvel readers will get from the character's work as a spy fighting against Communism. From there, Ant-Man will move into the modern era, with an aging Pym, recently filled by Michael Douglas, and the beginning of the Scott Lang story arc, which will eventually get Scott Lang in as Ant-Man. Lang will encounter this second villain along the way, who will serve as his primary villain, but what we're hearing is that Peña will wind up playing a larger role as the film develops, much more than just the opening to establish Ant-Man."
