Monday Night Raw Results 1/20/14: WWE Raw Recap Jan. 20, 2014: Batista returns, CM Punk draws No. 1 in Royal Rumble and Brock Lesnar confronts Big Show
The Jan. 20, 2014 edition of WWE's Monday Night Raw emanates live from the EJ Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio and opens with The Authority. Triple H cuts a promo about the Royal Rumble and then tries to introduce Batista, but Randy Orton cuts him off.
Orton demands to know who they think they are, but Stephanie says that more eyes are on the WWE than ever before and brings up how Orton attacked Cena's helpless father. Orton says this is ridiculous and he should be treated as the face of the WWE. He wants to know how he's supposed to react when they bring back Batista and Brock Lesnar.
Triple H tells him to calm down and expects him to rise up and be a proud champion. Instead, he beats up old men while two beasts are coming for him. He books a rematch with Kofi Kingston. Triple H says a camera is backstage so that everyone would know when Cena arrives and he tells Orton he alone will make this right.
Batista's music hits and Triple H and Stephanie applaud. He hugs them and ignores Orton's handshake attempt. The Authority leaves, and Batista makes it clear that he is back for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship no matter who holds the title. He says he will win the Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania, and Orton must deal with that.
The Shield defeats The Rhodes Brothers and Big E. Langston when Seth Rollins kicks Langston in the head for the win. This match featured a Disaster Kick to Roman Reigns, and later Reigns caught Cody in midair with a Superman punch as he tried another Disaster Kick. Langston splashed Dean Ambrose and nearly had the win, but Reigns broke it up and then speared Goldust.
Daniel Bryan comes out and says everyone has been asking him if he had a plan when he joined The Wyatt Family. He says he had to keep everyone in the dark to take down Bray Wyatt. He says Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are in the Royal Rumble match, which leaves Bray Wyatt for him in a one-on-one match. He starts a Yes! chant but Bray Wyatt cuts him off and calls him a traitor. He tells Bryan to go home and hug his mother and tell her he is sorry, because everything that happens now is his fault.
Fandango (w/Summer Rae) squashes Xavier Woods with the top rope leg drop. R-Truth was on commentary.
Brad Maddox and Kane argue backstage over who brought back Batista when Stephanie McMahon walks in and asks Maddox to leave. She asks Kane what he was thinking when he chokeslammed CM Punk on Friday Night Smackdown and tells him that an authority figure cannot attack anyone. Kane tries to argue but realizes that she is right, and she demands that he go apologize to Punk. Kane says Punk should apologize to him, but Stephanie glares at him and he leaves.
Kane comes to the ring and calls Punk to the ring. He apologizes, but Punk makes him repeat himself. Punk says he is sorry too and then hits Kane with the microphone. He knocks Kane out of the ring, but Brad Maddox runs out before Kane can go after Punk. He says Punk will get a fight with one of the New Age Outlaws.
Billy Gunn loses Rock Paper Scissors with Road Dogg and fights Punk. On commentary, Road Dogg says the New Age Outlaws are going after the Tag Team Championships. CM Punk wins the match when he counters the Fameasser into the GTS.
Brad Maddox and Kane reemerge and congratulate Punk on the win. Kane says he really is the Best in the World, and he can prove it when he enters the Royal Rumble match at No. 1.
Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio have their rubber match. Mysterio nearly picks up the win with the 619 and top rope splash, but Del Rio grabs the bottom rope. He then locks in the Cross Arm Breaker and Rey taps. Batista's music hits and The Animal makes his way to the ring and stares down Del Rio. He tries to sneak attack Batista, but The Animal catches him and plants him with the Batista Bomb.
Big Show comes out and mocks Paul Heyman's voice. He calls Brock Lesnar out to the ring, but Paul Heyman emerges. He does not say anything, but Lesnar's music hits and he makes his way down to ringside. But he and Heyman abruptly turn around and leave. Big Show gets back on the microphone and calls him down again. The two come back out and Lesnar gets right in Big Show's face.
Lesnar punks him out and tries to catch him off guard, but Show catches him and throws him. Lesnar gets a few shoulder tackles in the corner, but Show counters again and tosses him out of the ring. Lesnar gets mad and pulls apart the announce table. He grabs a steel chair and bangs it on the announce table. He tries to attack Show, but the giant stops him. Lesnar throws monitors at him but Show just mocks him. Lesnar and Heyman circle the ring as Show barks at him, but they back away and leave.
The Funkadactyls defeat AJ Lee and Tamina Snuka when Naomi pulls AJ by the hair and rolls her up for the win.
The Usos defeat Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Bray Wyatt cuts a promo on Daniel Bryan midway through the match. Bryan later runs out and assaults Bray Wyatt and Rowan, which allows The Usos to roll up Harper for the win.
Randy Orton faces Kofi Kingston in the main event, and John Cena arrives and runs toward the ring midway through the match. Cena attacks Orton, which causes him to win by disqualification. He tosses Orton into the crowd and they fight up the steps. Cena tries to hit the Attitude Adjustment on the concrete but Orton fights out of it and retreats. Cena chases him down and continues to attack him. Orton goes into a skybox and throws a fan at him to slow him down. Orton runs outside and escapes in a car. Cena walks back into the arena and hypes up the fans as the show goes off the air.
