Disney Channel extends 'Boy Meets World' sequel 'Girl Meets World' to full season order
The Boy Meets World sequel series Girl Meets World will air on the Disney Channel later this year, and fans of the original series who are eager to find out what's going on in the lives of Cory, Topanga and the others will now have more chances to do so.
Star Danielle Fishel, who plays Topanga in both series, posted on Twitter that the Disney Channel has extended Girl Meets World for a full season order:
"Got the great news tonight that #GirlMeetsWorld was picked up for 8 more episodes - a total of 21! Can't wait for everyone to see them all."
The extra eight episodes likely means that the network is confident in the quality of the show, and it could mean that the series will be on the airwaves for several years.
But it remains to be seen how fans of the original Boy Meets World series, many of whom are now in their 20s and 30s, receive the new show. It will air on the Disney Channel, and the focus will likely be on the younger characters on the show (Cory and Topanga's daughter, Riley, and her friend Maya) as the network wants to reach a younger audience. Nostalgic fans who are expecting a return to Boy Meets World could be disappointed when the show finally does air.
Then again, it's entirely possible that the show will strike a balance between the new and the old, Only time will tell, and the pilot episode will likely give a strong indication of what fans can expect and should set the tone for the show.
