Michael Fassbender's 'Assassin's Creed' movie eyeing 'Safe House' director Daniel Espinosa
Michael Fassbender is set to star and produce an adaptation of the popular video game series Assassin's Creed. There hasn't been much to report on this film since it was announced back in 2012, leading many to believe that it would eventually get canceled or shelved. But this week a director was rumored to be signing on to the film: Safe House filmmaker Daniel Espinosa.
When contacted by the media for comment, Representatives from New Regency (the production company for Assassin's Creed) couldn't confirm this rumor. They said that nobody had been in contact with Espinosa and that he is not attached to direct the adaptation.
The film is set for an August 17, 2015, release, so we should assume that filming would start sometime soon this year. With a huge name like Fassbender attached, there shouldn't be a problem getting a director on board. Why do you think there are so many hurdles for this Assassin's Creed movie?
Playwright Michael Lesslie wrote the script and The Wolverine screenwriter, Scott Frank, is currently touching it up.
Many gamers out there familiar with the franchise could be wondering which assassin Fassbender would be playing. Well according to the synopsis from Slashfilm, "Assassin's Creed follows a present-day bartender named Desmond Miles (Fassbender) who comes from a long line of assassins. By using a device called the Animus, he is able to access the memories of his ancestors."
It will definitely be interesting to see the Animus come to life on the big screen.
