Macklemore feels the Grammys robbed Kendrick Lamar, posts screenshots of convo with Kendrick after the show
Last night's Grammy Awards left some viewers, especially hip-hop fans, scratching their heads as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cleaned up in the rap category and Kendrick Lamar was essentially shut out.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took home four Grammys beating out Kendrick Lamar, Kasey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran and James Blake for Best New Artist.
The duo also won best rap performance and rap song, both for "Thrift Shop," and best rap album for The Heist. Many viewers were shocked and even a little upset that the pop-esque duo took home just about all of the rap awards.
Macklemore himself seemed a little taken aback and reached out to Kendrick Lamar after the show. He then shared their text messages with the world via Instagram.
Macklemore had this to say to K Dot:
"You got robbed. I wanted you to win. It's weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love"
Seems like a nice gesture. No word on what Kendrick Lamar's response was but Mack could have left the "weird and sucks" part out.
None the less, congrats to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on their wins.
