'Frozen' soundtrack continues to dominate charts as Grammys help boost sales for Lorde, Daft Punk, Beyoncé [VIDEO]
As snow piles up across the country, it seems like there's only one person to blame: Queen Elsa. Or at least, there's something going on with the Frozen queen. Despite the Grammys last week, which gave huge profiles to Daft Punk, Lorde, Macklemore and more, the soundtrack to the latest Disney film has held on strong to the No. 1 album title in the country.
According to Billboard, the soundtrack to Frozen logged a fourth non-consecutive week atop the Billboard 200, selling another 94,000 copies over the last week, largely thanks to the film's re-release in theaters as a sing-along feature. That means the highly successful movie soundtrack is edging ever-closer to that one million copies sold mark, logging 863,000 units sold in the US thus far.
The massive musical force that is the Grammy Awards had a huge impact on music sales. The most obvious sales jump comes to the Grammy Nominees compilation album, with songs from the likes of Daft Punk, Imagine Dragons and Kacey Musgraves, retained its No. 2 spot but saw a huge sales jump with 87,000 copies sold.
The Grammys boost showed strong for the No. 3 spot, which went to Lorde's Pure Heroine after selling 68,000 copies. The 17-year-old New Zealander took home two Grammys on Sunday, Jan. 26, for Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year for the album's lead single "Royals." She also performed her signature tune with a nice, new twist.
Lorde wasn't the only one who benefitted from increased exposure. Fellow Grammy performer Beyoncé's new album saw steady sales and landed the No. 5 spot with 48,000 copies. Bruno Mars, who took home a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Unorthodox Jukebox, saw a huge jump in sales with that album, rising from No. 18 to 7 and moving 42,000 copies. Mars is expected to be in the top 10 again next week thanks to continued sales from his stellar Super Bowl halftime show.
Other Grammy award winners and performers also landed in the top 10. Imagine Dragons' Night Visions rose three spots with 39,000 copies sold and a No. 8 spot. Katy Perry's Prism landed and No. 9 with 30,000 albums sold. Finally, the Grammys' biggest winners, Daft Punk, saw a 300 percent increase in sales, landing at No. 10 with Random Access Memories and 30,000 copies sold.
The highest new album of the week follows Lorde. Of Mice and Men had its best week ever with 51,000 copies of Restoring Force sold, landing the band a No. 4 spot. The other newcomer goes to Christian rock band Casting Crowns, whose new album Thrive arrived at No. 6 with 43,000 albums sold.
