Did Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson tease role of John Stewart Green Lantern for Justice League movie?
Before this article even begins, it's important to note that much of what's to come is speculation. But Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson himself has used the words "John Stewart," so it's time to start talking about the Justice League movie again.
The rumors have picked up again after multiple sites (starting with IGN) recently noted one of The Rock's Instagram posts from November, which had the following caption:
"Known this beast since he was 15. I was on the football field playing for Miami, he was leading the Hurricanes marching band as Drum Major. He spent years of working on my WWE story lines & Rock monologues. Then years of being on every movie set with me learning the film business from top to bottom. Today, he's one of the best and most sought after producers in Hollywood. Brilliant, relentless and one big motherf*cker! Proud of you brother & thank you for all the hard work.#ProducerHiram #TeamRock #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss"
The Rock responded to IGN's tweet of the story on Tuesday with the following:
All I said was.. #LanternCanWhupSuperman RT: @IGN: Did @TheRock reveal that he's playing John Stewart/Green Lantern? https://t.co/J1ZIi433UX
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) February 5, 2014
The Rock could be telling the truth that it was just an innocuous comment, or he could be playing coy. It does seem a bit odd that he would throw in that hashtag for no reason, as it has nothing to do with the rest of the Instagram post (unless it's an inside joke between him and his friend, in which case it makes perfect sense).
Recall, though, that The Rock tweeted on New Year's Eve that he had a meeting with Warner Bros. about a DC project in 2014, and many fans' minds jumped to Batman vs. Superman. But a usually credible source named Peter Georgiou, who works for ThinkMcFlyThink, later tweeted:
"Rumor: I didn't hear this directly, but it's floating around behind the scenes in the industry: @TheRock is up for John Stewart. Shrugs."
