Nike pulls a Beyonce, surprises with a Red Octobers release and sells out in ten minutes
Back in December, MStars reported that Footlocker would not be selling the Nike Air Yeezy II Red Octobers but in a move no one saw coming, Nike released Kanye West's highly anticipated and sought after sneaker Sunday (Feb. 9). They may have Beyonce beat with this surprise release.
The Nike Air Yeezy II Red Octobers were released on Nike's website, Nike.com, at 1 pm and by 1:11 pm Nike's official twitter announced that they were sold out sending out this tweet:
"The Nike Air Yeezy 2 has sold out on https://Nike.com." The tweet was retweeted over 5,500 times.
The shoes were available for $245 with free shipping. Today new listings have popped up all over Ebay, already reaching upward ten thousand dollars.
It is unclear whether there will be another release.
Footlocker originally announced that the shoes would be available Dec. 27, 2013 sending out this tweet:
"UPDATE: The Red Nike Air Yeezy 2 will be available ONLINE ONLY on December 27th at 8am EST.- Foot Locker (@footlocker)"
The tweet was promptly taken down and there was no word of the sneaker until Sunday's release. With today (Feb. 10) being the 10th anniversary of The College Dropout, some believe the release was no coincidence.
Were you lucky enough to snag a pair of the Nike Air Yeezy II Red Octobers? If not, do you plan on trying to get a pair? How much would you be willing to pay?
