Will Ferrell launches TV and film production company focusing on women: Gloria Sanchez Productions

Will Ferrell and production buddies Adam McKay and Chris Hentry started their own television and film production company seven years ago called Gary Sanchez Productions. This week, the Anchorman star announced that he is starting an offshoot production company that will focus exclusively on female-led projects in television and film headed by longtime production executive Jessica Elbaum.

"When Jessica came to us with this idea, we thought it was fantastic," Ferrell and McKay said in a statement. "She has worked with some of the great female voices in comedy and has proven herself as a gifted producer who has a keen eye for material."

Ferrell and McKay's statement added: "We called Gary (for whom the original production company is named), and he loved the idea as well, and asked that we name it after his favorite step-granddaughter, Gloria Sanchez."

It should be mentioned that Gary Sanchez doesn't actually exist. He is a character made up by Ferrell and friends.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

Gary Sanchez Productions, named after a fictitious place-kicker invented by Ferrell and McKay, has produced a number of films since forming, including Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Campaign, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. The company already has dipped its toe into the female comedy space with the 2012 indie breakout Bachelorette and has a number of such projects in various stages of development and production including the Melissa McCarthy vehicle Tammy at New Line.
