Master P talks selling 75 million records, calls himself the 'Michael Jordan of Street Hip-Hop'
Master P, though often overlooked, is probably one of the most hardworking hip-hop moguls. P recently sat down with Vlad TV to drop some jewels on his upbringing between New Orleans and The Bay Area, his business mindset and how he was able to sell 75 million records under No Limit Records.
"The Bay was definitely where I got my hustle from, my music hustle, you know 'cause everybody was thinking independently and putting their own CD's out which I think really helped me with my career being who I am today," P said.
During his interview with Vlad TV, Master P talked about his business ventures and how he was so successful. He also had a few words for his critiques.
"The thing about it is, people don't realize, I consider myself-I ain't tryin' to be the best lyricist-I just make music that people could feel," he said. "But I am the best businessman, I feel I'm the best hustler in the game. So, I'm always about my business, I think that people didn't think you could do that, but when you put your own marketing and promotion money up you can control your rights."
And if anyone knows about making smart business moves, it's definitely Master P.
Back in 1995, P was able to work out an "80/20" distribution deal with Priority Records in which he was able to keep 100 percent of his masters under his No Limit imprint.
