John Mayer, 'Queen Of California' Music Video, Uses 'Draw Something' To Paint A Vivid Picture [VIDEO]
John Mayer has decided to integrate social media into his most recent music video.
The four minute compilation for "Queen of California," the latest single off Mayer's most recent critically acclaimed album "Born and Raised," uses the popular gaming app Draw Something.
The mobile app developed by Omgpop allows two player's alternate turns between drawing a picture to convey the guessword for his/her partner to guess.
While the game has become somewhat of a phenomenon with 20 million downloads in the first five weeks of its release, Mayer apparently hired one of more frequent and talented Draw Something users to depict lyrical themes in the video for the song.
Throughout the video, exceptionally impressive drawings are put together that portray themes in the song. Pictures of everything from stylish headphones to a portrait of Neil Young and even an image of a queen pop up over the course of the video.
"Queen of California," next to "Shadow Days," is just the second single of Mayer's new album.
Rolling Stone music critic Jon Dolan gave the new album four stars saying that album's "stylistic change-up and unburdening tone make for some of the most convincing music of Mayer's career."
Unfortunately Mayer missed out on the opportunity to tour off the recent success of "Born and Raised" as he has been experiencing re-occurring vocal problems over the last two years.
"I went in for a visit on Wednesday and a scope of my vocal cords revealed that the granuloma has grown back where it had mostly healed. This is bad news," he wrote on his Tumblr. "Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down."
John Mayer's "Born and Raised" debuted at Number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 219,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Billboard reported that it is the singer/songwriter's third No. 1 set, following 2009's "Battle Studies" and 2003's "Heavier Things." "Battle Studies" bowed with 289,000 in its first week, while "Heavier Things" launched with 317,000. He released a solo studio album between those sets, 2006's "Continuum," which entered at No. 2 off a 300,000 start.
