Matthew Perry to Star in CBS 'Odd Couple' Reboot
The reboot of The Odd Couple has been ordered by CBS. The script, based on Neil Simon's Broadway play, will be written by Matthew Perry and Joe Keenan. Perry will also be starring in the series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Perry will also executive produce the CBS Television Studios comedy alongside Timberman-Beverly's Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman as well as and The Tannenbaum Co.'s Eric and Kim Tannenbaum.
Currently, no other casting besides Perry has been announced.
The show stars two roommates, Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison. Ungar is an uptight news-writer (photographer in the television series) who is kicked out of his apartment by his wife. Madison is a messy sportswriter who lives life to the fullest. Madison will be played by Perry.
CBS' pilot will mark the fifth film/television adaptation of the Simon play.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that The Odd Couple also serves as a return to multi-camera comedy for Perry, whose past two short-lived comedies (Go On and Mr. Sunshine) had been single-camera vehicles. Perry, most known for his role on Friends, has made appearances on The Good Wife and Cougar Town. Besides television roles, Perry was in 17 Again along with Zac Efron.
