'The Conjuring 2' Release Date Revealed: October 23, 2015
The Conjuring was one of the most successful films of 2013, prompting an early confirmation for a sequel to come in the near future. New Line Cinema this week announced that this yet-to-be-titled sequel will hit theaters around Halloween on October 23, 2015. Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are set to return.
This sequel has yet to hire a new director, as James Wan has declined to fill those shoes once again. Though New Line executive Toby Emmerich says that Wan will be involved in some capacity with this sequel.
"The Conjuring is incredibly effective and scary without the use of blood, gore and death," Emmerich said in late 2013. "It's a horror film that emphasizes atmosphere and suspense in the tradition of classics like Psycho or The Others."
Variety reports:
New Line had already begun development of a sequel before the movie opened last July. Chief exec Toby Emmerich told Variety in December that "Conjuring 2" would tap a similar vein as the first film, which largely avoided conventional horror film ploy while exploring demonic possession ... Set in Rhode Island in 1971, the story is based on the work of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren - portrayed by Wilson and Farmiga. Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor played the father and mother of the five Perron girls who were terrorized by the haunted house.
We recently reported on a spinoff film also being made about one of the dolls featured in The Conjuring. Read more on that here!
