City of Houston recognizes rapper Slim Thug for community efforts, celebrates 'Slim Thug Day'
The City of Houston recently recognized rapper Slim Thug for his charitable efforts around the community. The rapper received his own day, by way of Council Member Jerry Davis and Mayor Annise D. Parker, as a reward for his good deeds and active involvement around the city.
In a ceremony at Houston's City Hall, Feb. 25 was officially declared as "Slim Thug Day."
How many rappers can say that?
While many simply talk about giving back to their communities, Slim is one of the few who actually put in the work to back it up. He may be known for his flashy lifestyle and grill full of diamonds but that's not to take away from his heart of gold.
"Every year, I do toy drives and turkey give-a-ways for underprivileged kids in my hood. I know what it's like to have a mom that works more than one job just to provide for her family, so I just play my part in helping those single mothers out," Slim Thug said.
Aside from donating to the underprivileged, Slim is also very supportive of fresh, new talent coming out of Houston. He is a positive supporter of talents like Kirko Bangz, Propain and Instagram comedic star, King Keraun, who was featured on Slim's most recent mixtape entitled Boss Life.
Slim gave a speech during the ceremony and took the opportunity to share some encouraging words for the youth.
"I also want to prove to the youth that dreams can be achieved through hard work and dedication, [and] I want to motivate you to be leaders," Slim said.
