Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are making more money than their One Direction bandmates. Find out how!
The majority of the songs of Midnight Memories were credited to a new songwriting duo that is quickly taking over the pop world. One Direction members Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson have been writing the boy band's newest hits and are reaping the rewards: more money and prospects for future songwriting.
Considering songwriters are typically awarded around 9% of royalties for each track written on an album, Liam and Louis are most likely making more money than their 1D bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik. This shouldn't be a cause for dispute though because they're technically putting in more work than the others who seem to be okay with not becoming songwriters.
Midnight Memories is still bringing in plenty of money since its release in November of 2013, so Liam and Louis are doing very well for themselves with the added royalties. This doesn't mean they're slowing down, though.
In a new interview this year, Liam Payne opened up about this songwriting portion of his One Direction career, which he shares with Tomlinson.
''Louis and I have a little partnership going on," Liam recently announced. "We've been pretty keen to start writing straight away. I've been in the studio already; it's been going really well. Learning how to write is the best way of ensuring your career has longevity and that you have control over it.''
What do you think of Liam and Louis' other career as songwriters? Do you think they'll look to write for others outside of One Direction or stick to their roots and only write for themselves and their band?
