John Travolta apologizes for calling Idina Menzel 'Adele Dazeem' at the 2014 Oscars
John Travolta was a special presenter at this weekend's 86th annual Academy Awards ceremony, where he was asked to come out on stage and introduce Idina Menzel for her performance of "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen. This song took home the Oscar for best original song and Menzel's performance was one for the ages, but all we can really remember is how Travolta butchered Idina's name during his introduction. Now he's released an apology statement.
In a statement released by his publicist, Travolta said:
"I've been beating myself up all day. Then I thought ... what would Idina Menzel say, She'd say, Let it go, let it go! Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!"
Despite starting off as an apology, Travolta quickly turned it into a corny statement as only he could.
There are a few things about this statement that are amazing. The first is that it is not an apology, but just a weird, happy-go-lucky way for John to look like a harmless guy in the situation. Also, it took him a good two days to release the statement, when he pretty much made up a name when introducing Menzel. Lastly, we have no idea if he reached out to Idina about this. Isn't that who should be getting this apology?
"Adela Dazeem" might not sound anything like Idina Menzel's name, but it has taken the Internet by storm. What do you think of this hilarious and unfortunate name mistake from Travolta?
