Lauryn Hill Tax Evasion: Pleads Guilty in Court, Jail Time?
Former Fugees front woman Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty for tax evasion charges in New Jersey. The 37-year-old admitted to not paying her taxes to IRS on money she earned between 2005 through 2007. There is a chance that Hill could face three years of jail time for not paying federal taxes on $1.8 million dollars.
When the issue was first exposed earlier in the month, Hill posted a statement on her website addressing this issue among others.
Hill wrote, "I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns!"
Her attorney Nathan Hockman stated that Hill will pay her portion of taxes owed.
Hill is not the only celebrity who have reportedly failed to file taxes including Lindsey Lohan, Al Pacino, Martha Stewart, among others.
Hill had her share of golden days fronting the popular Fugees, and had a successful solo career, but withdrew herself from all the spotlight to focus on her 6 children.
