Rooney Mara cast as Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin story movie 'Pan' opposite Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund
Rooney Mara is currently in negotiation to star as Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin film 'Pan,' opposite Garrett Hedlund as a young Captain Hook and Hugh Jackman as the infamous pirate, Blackbeard. This is the latest casting news on the new concept, with the title character still open for casting.
The Wrap details this new movie's synopsis:
"Pan" tells the untold story of how a young orphan boy from London is spirited away to the magical Neverland where he finds grand adventures that shape him into the hero known to generations as Peter Pan ... Wright is planning to create a world that very international and multi-racial, effectively challenging audiences' preconceived notions of Neverland and reimagining the environment.
As you might notice, Mara is not Native American (we don't think) yet she's been cast in that role. Her previous roles prove that she is one of Hollywood's greatest talents, so hopefully we can get past the racial issue. It'll be interesting to see how Mara and Wright tackle this character.
Also, depending on who is cast in the leading role of Peter Pan, we should expect some sort of romantic element involving Rooney and this yet-to-be-named actor. Who would you like to see in the updated, role of Peter Pan in Pan?
Mara is best known for her leading role in David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She was also most recently in the Oscar-nominated Spike Jonze film Her and can be seen in Trash, directed by Stephen Daldry.
