WATCH: 'True Detective' season 1 deleted scene helps explain finale episode [VIDEO]

As we all wait for the second season of HBO's True Detective to come around, we're still pondering the first season's finale that aired this past weekend. Though it didn't live up to the mythological and theoretical hopes of some fans, it broke HBO Go, so that was cool. All in all, it was an intense and gritty finale to an amazing first season. Now a deleted scene from the first series can help shed some more light on the finale, but definitely helps us dive back into the mind of Rust Cohle!

One of the smaller parts of season one involved Rust getting a serious girlfriend, Laurie, and living well for a handful of years. This fell apart and we all know the man he became. But the relationship itself fell apart off-screen, with viewers content to just imagine how it went wrong. Well now we have a deleted scene that pretty much shows the collapse of Rust's relationship with Laurie, letting us relive the philosophical nature of Detective Cohle for one more scene. As you can see, Rust doesn't want kids and Laurie does. This is a pretty common argument between lovers, but seeing it acted out by McConaughey and Elizabeth Reaser (Twilight) is a real treat. We didn't get to see much of Reaser in the series, with only a brief scene to introduce her character, so it was nice to see how well she fit in with the rest of the talent.

In relating this deleted scene to the season finale, it adds on a bit to Rust's dying dream of his daughter after he wrapped up the case and found "The Yellow King." It also shows how Rust wasn't much of a romantic.
