Jay-Z Cuts Kanye Off During Acceptance of BET Awards
Buddies Jay-Z and Kanye West were announced as the Video of Year winners for their video "Otis" at the 2012 BET Awards. It was no ordinary acceptance with Jay-Z surprising the audience by teasing his friend onstage.
"Excuse me, Kanye, I'mma let you continue, but ... " Jay jokingly interrupted West while on stage, referencing the Taylor Swift incident at the VMA Awards in 2009 where Kanye offensively snatched the mic from Swift to stand up for Beyoncé who he thought deserved to win instead. The crowd roared in laughter. Beyonce also responded with laughter and clapping at how Jay-Z teasingly mocked West's previous blunder. Kanye took it lightly and joked back saying, "I'm trying to defend your girl!"
West's girl Kim Kardashian smiled at her winner boyfriend from her seat the entire time he gave his speech. West said, "Thank you, BET, for allowing us to push the envelope. The awards make sense sometimes if something is really, really good. We put in a lot of work, a lot of hours, a lot of sleepless nights."
He continued, "We don't take it lightly. It's like being a new artist every day. ... Everybody knows we put in so many hours to bring you the best product possible. We don't take for granted the opportunity that y'all have given to us."
The duo Jay-Z and Kanye West also took home the award for Best Group earlier in then night.
