Onyx release "Whut Whut" off new album 'Wakedafucup'
Onyx revealed their new album Wakedafucup late last year, and we all got ready to be disappointed. Golden Age hardcore rappers tend to lose their edge as they get older, and late-stage albums come off either lackluster or cartoonish. Then, the title track got us all jumping around like it was '93 again and we all held out a glimmer of hope that the new album from the "Slam" rappers could go beyond acceptable and maybe be (dare we say it?) good.
Unfortunately, the follow-up track "Whut Whut" proves we were right to be skeptical.
This track sounds like it would've been the intro music for a third-tier WWF wrestler during the Attitude Era. Even worse, the verses come off like some of those ill-conceived wrestler-made albums of the time, the lines are cheesy, leaden and full of hollow aggression.
Here's hoping "Whut Whut" is an exception when Wakedafucup drops March 18.
