Jensen Ackles and Jeremy Carver preview 'Supernatural' Season 9 episode 'Blade Runners'
Supernatural Season 9 returns Tuesday night with a new episode entitled "Blade Runners" that returns focus to the Men of Letters, the Mark of Cain and the First Blade. Star Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, and showrunner Jeremy Carver have offered some previews for the new installment.
Firstly, Ackles spoke to EW.com more broadly about the Mark of Cain and Dean's storyline for the rest of the season.
"We know that the Mark of Cain comes with a 'burden' and a 'cost,' but we've yet to see it in action. So where is this going to take Dean? The last time something was on somebody's arm it was Sam and he was about to die.
[Laughs] Yeah, we're always about to die at some point. There's always something creeping up on one of the brothers, but this particular thing, it's more of an internal thing, much like Sam's issues. It's something that's happening inside. I think Dean's becoming less compassionate. He's becoming a little bit more primal in his dealings with good and bad. He's becoming a little bit more tunnel vision, and he's getting really really amped up very quickly. You might want to say it's almost like Dean's putting on blinders and taking steroids. So it's a dangerous combo."
EW then pointed out that Dean killed a human being in the last episode, and Ackles remarked that the mark is changing Dean's moral compass and his judgment to the point where he has no problem killing anyone or anything that is doing wrong.
Carver spoke to TVLine and said tonight's episode will feature Dean's first contact with the First Blade and will also "start exploring" the Mark of Cain's effects on him both emotionally and physically. He also said the next two episodes will dive more into the Men of Letters' history.
