The AMC cable network is moving on up from zombies to extraterrestrials. And who better to make a serialized TV show about alien conspiracies than The X-Files Creator Chris Carter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMC has added Area 51 to its development pipeline. X-Files creator Chris Carter has joined The Walking Dead's executive producer Gale Anne Hurd in making a new sci-fi thriller. After making The After on Amazon, Carter returns to writing scripted dramas about shadowy government agents and hidden truths.

This series will be based on the Annie Jacobsen's book, Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base. Shortened to Area 51, the show will look at the alien conspiracy behind the infamous Nevada military base. Set around the '50s, the plot revolves around the people who work at the top-secret base and protect the remains of the supposed alien crash at Roswell.

A different kind of X-Files reunion, Carter and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gillian will both have television shows on AMC. Gillian, who wrote many of the classic X-Files episodes, will write and executive produce Better Call Saul on AMC. Both shows will certainly be entertaining programming for audiences.

With The X-Files and The Walking Dead creators at the helm, Area 51 definitely looks like must-see TV. As of right now, audiences will have to wait for the show to premiere on AMC.
