March Madness Upset: Dayton Flyers eliminate yet another team in No.10 Stanford's
When March Madness started not many predicted the Dayton Flyers as the team to watch, nor spoke of them at all, to be honest, but now they're are without a doubt this years 'Cinderella team' and they are in the form of their life. After eliminating the Ohio State Buckeyes and Syracuse, when they were expected to lose both, their attention turned to Stanford, for a place in the Elite-Eight. They didn't disappoint, winning 82-72.
After yet another victory Dayton forward Dyshawn Pierre said "We're known right now throughout the nation as the 'Cinderella team, But we really believe that we are an elite team and we can compete with anyone in the country." Who would disagree with that statement right now? Fans are wondering if Dayton could pull off the upset of all upsets, and win the NCAA tournament.
Why are they doing so well? They're a selfless team, who had 19 assists in this game, and they play as a team with no star individual looking to boost his stock. This team-first emphasis has seen them win 13 of their past 15 games, and brush aside everybody as they find themselves entering the Elite-Eight.
With the likes of Jabari Parker and Andrew Wiggins being tipped to be top NBA stars, Dayton are showing how a team-first style can trump their star-first emphasis. There's no doubt that the two stars will be a huge success, but perhaps some of these Dayton players will become attractive propositions for teams looking to play as a team, and not depend on one new superstar to take them to new heights.
